Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan—the 1765 kilometer (1200 mile) 'Pipeline to Nowhere' that came on line July 13, 2006, linking the hydrocarbon riches of Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea to the Turkish deep-water port of Ceyhan on the Mediterranean and world markets!
While endlessly talked about during the 1990s, by the year 2000, there was not only no BTC development on the ground--there was not even a real BTC project map.
Then, out of the blue, there arrived a BTC project proposal so zany that the leadership of Azerbaijan had to take it seriously.
It was 'The Oil Odyssey,' or Goltz's plan to deliver first, symbolic Azerbaijani crude down some version of the BTC pipeline--and via Soviet side-car motorcycles.
